Hiking in the mountains of Asprovalta
Finding opportunities to do various activities while on vacation in Asprovalta, known for family vacations, is not difficult at all. All you have to do is turn your gaze to the nearby mountains and valleys, and you will see that you can explore by bike or take unique walks. Some of the best hiking and biking trails can be found in the Asprovalta area and are the Macedonian Temples and Mount Kerdyllion. Macedonian Tempi proves to be a natural resort and has a wide variety of plant and animal species. About 90 species of birds live, which can be seen during the hike, and Macedonian Tempi has been recognized as an "Important Bird Area". Among other species, you can observe magpies, robins, owls and hawks. As you follow the hiking trails, be sure to see different varieties of trees, including sycamores, lindens and willows which are the dominant species in the area. Various shrubs and interesting climbing plants (such as ivy) appear very often. Mount Kerdyllion takes over the dominant position above Asprovalta, offering an excellent panoramic view over the area and the Strymoniko Gulf. As you hike through various parts of this natural jewel, you will discover springs, streams and other natural creations reverently hidden by firs, beeches and pines. The Monastery of Agios Georgios, with its Byzantine style, is an attraction waiting for hikers and cyclists to discover. In its area is a scout hut for all those who need a rest stop. There are several cycle paths available in the surrounding area of Asprovalta, some of which start and end in the centers of the areas. You can take your pick in terms of distance and difficulty, but most of them are around 50km. Ascents and descents range, in general, between 300 meters and 700 meters above sea level, and most paths incline towards the settlement of Olympiada, to the south of Asprovalta. In addition to hiking and biking, there are also trails for Enduro motorcycles around Mount Kerdyllion.
